Fish Leong <<今天情人节>> Concert 29 Dec 07

First time got free tix for a concert! Had 6 some more... The pre-concert feeling was v different from all the other concerts that I've watched though.. wasn't excited at all, felt like I was going for a movie instead.
Stage setting was by far the nicest I've seen; more unique and aesthetically appealing. Perhaps Fish's songs are the more lovey-dovey and slow type, seems like her fans are the same genre - damn quiet and boring! I'm not saying her songs are boring, but the ambience was really quite dead, unlike those of Sammi, Jacky Cheung, Jolin, Grasshoppers, etc., where the crowd was already screaming like mad way before, during and at the ending of the concert. Even the few of us were just giving courtesy applause...

Due to Fish's not-much-stage-antics, the performance was enhanced by stage props, acrobatic acts from China, some cheesy cheerleading acts and lotsa balloons... Her voice was good though! Clear and pitch perfect. She sang lotsa familiar and nice songs.. <<分手快乐>>, <<如果有一天>>, <>, etc... Quite touching when she sang <<勇气>>... 阿信 from 五月天's guest performance was great! Rockish and explosive.. seems like it garnered the most screams and applause that nite ha...Me & Zozo actually turned to each other and said 'Now this is what I call a concert!' in unison...

Anyhows...This concert had also 为 my crazy concert spree this year 制造了一个完美的句点... Don't think I'll be this crazy in the near future... yet. Heh.

The Day Before Tomorrow...

Just came back from grocery shopping at Carrefour... there are sooo many Carrefours here! Damn crowded too... The gals spent 600+ dirhams on their stuff! Stocking up their inventory, since we have a car to deliver the things back. Machiam war coming haha...

Soaked up the sun by the pool day this morning... then B cooked noodles for us, then watched dvd again... Another nonsensical show - this time its 'Dumpling' by Yang Qian Hua.. People eating foetus to regain youth n stuff... Yucks...

Cooked our 'last dinner' in DXB together... Yummy... Tmr R&R till we leave for the airport at 8+... Should be reaching SIN ard 2+ pm. Quite dry huh, duno wat to type liao... waiting for them to watch dvd again....

It's Your Turn Too, Shir!!!!

She's always teasing us for being older, when my bday is just like 2 days earlier than hers... so, welcome to the club! Ha!

Last nite all of us cooped together in Tek's room to watch the thai horror movie 'Alone' while waiting for 12 midnight. The show was about a pair of Siamese twins who later got separated and 1 of them died and yada yada yada... not a very scary show but its nice to watch together... I mean, how often do you have time to watch dvd together nowadays?

Anywayz, Tek cooked Dukbokki (Korean ricecake) for our lunch.. its nice but quite spicy.. Then we went in search for Spice Souk to buy dates (which is the famous local product here btw) but it was a disappointment... Proceeded to Spring Bamboo, a Chinese restaurant, for dinner. Food was not bad, service ain't that good though. Chilled at this Holland-V alike place after that and then cut her cake from Baskin Robbins at home.. Nice cake but v jelat... n looks like shit haha!
Later gonna watch dvd again... 2 more days to home... Suddenly I feel my 16 days here are so short. Hmmm... Post vacation blues beginning.... Cham...

p.s. Have loads of photos but gotta give me sometime to upload =p

26th Birthday, Dubai Style

Actually did nothing much lah, just wanted to make the title more seh, or rather I can't think of any thing heh... Spent my day at Mamzar Beach - have to pay 5 dirhams to enter. Not too bad, clean sand and sea but I very much prefer Jumeirah Beach.

Then went back to the apartment and prepared for the nite. Had Italian food for dinner.. its mushroom soup was nice! Had seafood spaghetti as usual... Yumms! Then we went to this chillout place at Jumeirah Hotel named 360 (deg)... Kindda special coz we were 'chaffeured' to the spot via a buggy. Cool place with nice house music... a little like Cafe Del Mar... V v cold though, coz it was by the sea but the night view was magnificent...From our table, it was Jumeirah Hotel on the left and Burj Al Arab on the right. Only bummer was we weren't allowed to bring my cake in, so we cut it back at home instead.

So that was it, my simple and nice little birthday celebration... Thank youuuu for all the birthday sms-es and wishes, sorry I couldn't reply to you yah...

Tomorrow or rather later's gonna be another bday celebration, for Shir. 4 more days to home....

DXB Day 9, 10 & 11

We went to Wild Wadi!!... Its entrance, that is haha... It cost 180 dirhams (S$80) each to enter!! Couldn't bring ourselves to pay that kind of money for things which are basically the same as the long-defunct Fantasy Island, and the only highlight was the 7-storey slide. In the end we sua-ed to Jumeirah Beach... The sea was so green and clear (but ultra salty) and sand was v clean n fine! The seabed was pretty high though - we ventured quite far out, which I seldom do so, and I could still have my feet on the sand. Nice weather, clear sea, clean sand, the Burj Al Arab was in sight.... My Heaven (beach).... had Yong Ji's Roast Goose which Tek brought back from Hong Kong for dinner... Yummm!!

Day 10 was all about the Desert Safari. Brought a few airsick bags that we goped from the airplane, just in case heh... Our guide drove us through the high sand dunes - up and down, up n down, not recommended for weak stomachs coz it was really bumpy! Ming turned quite green haha... Sand was reddish and fine and the whole landscape looked amazing, especially with the sunset which was right in sight. We were then brought to a campsite for a short camel ride and dinner and were entertained by a belly-dancer. Boy was it chilly at the desert at nite...

Finally visited Burj Al Arab aka The Sail, the only 7-star hotel in the world! Place was pretty majestic and security was very tight. Had to book our breakfast in advance, and the booking confirmation had to be checked by the guard at the gate. No phototaking in the restaurant... Our Continental breakfast wasn't really worth the price though, which btw was 220 dirhams (S$100) each... Most ex breakfast in my life! Served in individual portions, it was just normal stuff like bread, cocktail sandwiches, eggs, fruits, muesli, etc... The tea-set, cutlery and other misc items were quite exquisite and detailed.. To me its the experience that counts ba.. Ambience was great and service was good too.. Looks stressful to work there I think..

Had steamboat for dinner... too lazy to go anywhere else after the super full meal ha... 'Later' is gonna be quite a long day coz we are going to many places and most importantly, to celebrate the mark of Yours Truly's 26th year of existence!! Heh heh... =p

Day 8 in Dubai...

Today is super R&R day... stayed at home the whole day.

B drove us up to Abu Dhabi yesterday.. long drive, took around 3hrs... its supposed to be the capital of UAE, but it seems to me that Dubai is more capital-like though. We stopped at the Marina Mall, had our lunch cum tea at a cafe, walked around a bit then drive off again. Drove past Emirates Palace Hotel and to our pleasant surprise we could actually go in and take pictures. The place was so huge, royale and grand!!! V golden too... all the fittings, lightings and stuff were yellow-gold in colour. The garden area was v big too... could have explored more, if not for this irritating guard who came and shushed us in - "Kuikly kuikly" (Quickly quickly).. After that it was a near 4hrs drive back, coz of the jam. Btw, jams are so common in DXB and it can be real horrible... Then, all of us helped to cook with B as the Exec Chef at the helm and us as his assistants (I stir-fried 3 dishes!).. so nice and homely to cook together, then eat and talk at the table after that =)

This morning, we decided not to go anywhere after the long drives yesterday and also coz today is a weekend, so everywhere will be damn crowded n jammed - Friday is the weekend in DXB while Saturdays and Sundays are normal working days. Me, B and Ming went for a tan at the swimming pool at the roof top. Shir cooked us lunch, and then its dvd-ing all the way. Paused for dinner that B and Ming cooked, and then 3 of us are huddled in Tek's room watching some silly show. Tek is away on flight and Shir is going on one later - we basically entertain ourselves when they are away working.

Caught some fireworks just now!! 2nd Dec is UAE's National Day, so we can expect more fireworks these few days. Buildings here are all not very high except for those in the business district, so we can actually have a far view of it from our building.

Tmr we are going to Wild Wadi, which is a Fantasy Island-alike water theme park.

Back to the silly show now...

As-salam àlaykum from Dubai!!

As-salam àlaykum!!!!

Now is the ending of Day 6 already... so far so good, relak everyday, visiting places, etc. Actually wanted to blog from Day 1 onwards, but i'm either too tired or too lazy heh..

Super exec summary, my flight from SIN to DXB via Thai Airways was almost 12hrs, including transit time.. B, Shir and Tek were there to welcome us and we were whisked off to their apartment in our rented car. The place is nice, kindda condo-like and the whole place is air-conditioned. Oh btw, weather here is hot hot hot, but chilly at nite. 1st meal was steamboat at home, had it at 8+ DXB time, which is basically 12+ SIN time... machiam eating supper liao haha... Its v nice, warm n homely, with a huge spread of food. Went to Zinc (a club) after that... dun like it; music and crowd quite yucky.

Fell sick the next day...down with fever, so I practically slept throughout the day, while being taken cared of by the rest..

Got better the next day, so went jalan jalan again... Till today we've visited several big malls (n I mean real BIG), Dubai Museum, Hardrock Cafe, Irish Village, etc...B will drive and bring us around everyday, machiam he's a semi-PR of DXB ha...He cooks for us too... Its so nice to prepare and eat breakfast or any other meals together... Their Korean flatmate cooked dinner for us a few nights ago too... authentic Korean food.. Yummy! Things here are really expensive; had Lebanese food at a FOODCOURT and it cost me S$17...Grocery is ex too... only thing that is dirt cheap is their petrol of coz... Full tank cost S$20+ only!

Looking forward to visiting Jumeirah Beach - the sand and sea looks so damn nice and most of all, Burj Al Arab aka The Sail. Thats' all for now!!! Miss everyone at home and No.10 of coz hee... Till then, cya!!!

1st Bday Present of 2007!!

Xin bought me these for my Bday!!!

We met up at TM last nite... Initially I was told its just the 2 of us, and I didn't even realise the 2 other 'idiots' who were sua-ku-ing (e.g. "Wah here got StarHub!!") behind us haha.. Brushed them off as noisy kids in fact heh! Had our dinner @ Ajisen, where the Hokkaido Seafood Ramen was so damn yummy... Had a long-distant chat with Qiao too. Vin joined us much later and we proceeded to Mac for his dinner. Short but nice catch up with one another... esp for Muchacha, who got so many shocks in 1 nite haha =)

Thank Yous to...
  • Xin for the so-Me-card, Sammi's DVD (which I've been so so so waiting for) and organising the dinner
  • Vin, Ah Bye and Muchacha for coming (They travelled from Boon Lay, NUS and Woodlands respectively, though the guys stay @ Tampines while my dear Muchacha has to go all the way back to Sembawang... thanks Babe! =p)
  • & last but not least, Qiao for Voice-appearing.

To the rest who couldn't make it, cya all when I'm back (8th Dec)!!

Crab Walk

...cont...

Walked to AMK Blk 232 for the famous crabs after No.10 finished his revision... I led the way with my photographic memory of where the place is situated... Not too bad, we didn't really holland-ed, just went an extra BIG round only haha!

Had to queue for a while before we were seated. Ordered the Claypot Crab Beehoon, Butter-milky Crabs, Kailan and Mantou... Was pre-empted that we might have to wait for 1.5hrs! Went ahead nonetheless, in the end we waited for about 45mins or so only. The Claypot Crab Beehoon was nice though the crab meat was kindda soggy I think... The Butter-milky Crab was good as well, though I very much prefer Defu Lane's.

I gobbled up everything, ate more than No.10 heh, feeling so '我是幸福的'... eating the crabs I mean... Major OPPS. =p

Then we walked back to AMK interchange... '是 nice 的'... =)

图书馆记

(standard studying gear)

I'm @ AMK Community Library now...Haven't been to one in ages, a place where I normally wouldn't be caught dead in ha... I'm a 陪读书童 today, bumming around - reading, blogging, etc. while No.10 revises. Stormy weather outside, lots of students mugging (feeling is so 'been through, done that' ha) Looking at them, brought back so many memories... Those times where me, Xin n prob 1 or 2 others cramming at WhiteSands' Mac to study, when I was alone at Woodlands Library, etc... I will never be revising in my Uni though.. not to mention the library, which main purpose served to me was to print notes.. coz looking at the hardworking people burying their heads beneath books n notes juz makes me sick. Can't imagine how they can stay overnight there to study eeurrrgh!!!

Anywayz I found these pretty interesting books and this interesting quote:

Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first - Ernestine Ulmer

I like! Heh... Going for crabs later yum...
to be continued...

Today I learned a new word!!

Lackadaisical

1. Without interest, vigor, or determination; listless; lethargic. E.g. a lackadaisical attempt.
2. Lazy; indolent. E.g. a lackadaisical fellow.
This was from a customer complaint email... how cool is that...
Pun intended.

Sammi Show Mi World Tour - Singapore 13 Oct 07

My wish came true!! Bought tix for myself & Xin the moment the internet sales began a couple of months back. So there we were @ the Indoor Stadium, armed with our light sticks and screaming like kids. It felt so nice to watch 'at Home' as compared to watching in HK, where we felt pretty alienated. Our seats were quite good too - 12th row from the front. Stage effects were not as good as 紅磡 of coz, but Sammi's vocal prowress were juz as power, can't even tell that she was having throat infection. Pretty disappointed that there was no encore but nevertheless, it was absolutely worth it to have watched it again. Sammi's nothing like those of her depicted in the tabloids... Not too skinny and looked pretty toned too. Super beautiful!
Atmosphere was heated up by the 3rd number, unlike previous concerts which I attended where it took at least 1 hr to warm up the crowd. Her dialogue and all except for 2 songs were in Cantonese... Luckily was able to catch what she said clearer this time though.
I like this 造型 Guest star Stefanie Sun
She looked so damn good in this power suit!

Now waiting for her concert dvd! *glee*

Botak Jones 记

We checked out Botak Jones @ Toa Payoh last friday (supposed to be a farewell dinner for Zns & bday dinner for Stv but in the end both couldn't make it -_-") ... juz like all the other outlets, it's situated at a pretty ulu area, inside a canteen. It was still quite empty when me, Fai & Bye reached... surprisingly it was full-house later the evening... We kindda ate like paupers, coz they only accept cash so we pooled our 'funds' together haha... Quite economical though - it was only $25+ for 3 ala carte dishes and a plate of fries.
While waiting, we bio-ed the table next to us and saw their pizza looked v yummy and we were starving... oh btw gotta wait for at least 45mins for our orders, so after doing our accounts, we ordered a hawaiian pizza from a stall next to it. It was so delicious! Super cheesy too!
Then Bye tried to 陷害 me by keep adding chilli flakes to my pizza - "辣死你,辣死你!!"... in the end it was kindda stucked, and I asked him to juz open the bottle and pour... then when he wanted to add it to his own pizza, guess wat happened... hahahaha!
Our food finally arrived after some time, and here's our spread:

Bye's Botak Jones Burger
My Cajun Chicken

As requested by Fai himself, this was his Hotdog.

Mr & Mrs Anything and ZY reached shortly after, then ordered and shared a weird soup, a mountain of grass (salad) and something else that I cannot remember hee... Not a bad place to makan, there's a little bar at the side too... the hoegarrden looked so tempting hmmm...

Okie, next stop where? =)

月饼节快乐!!!

Actually its tomorrow lah haha... Didn't buy mooncakes this year, but gotta try some from a few hotels. Got 3 boxes of the same flavour from Tung Lok some more... not too bad, but I prefer my snowskin mooncakes more.

So far, I think the best I tasted this year are firstly, Mini Snowskin Lychee, Almond & Dark Chocolate Mooncakes. The combi sounds weird but it tastes heavenly! As the name suggests, its a 巧妙融合 all the 3 flavours and the snowskin itself is chewy and yet melt-ly. Yummmm..... The packaging is very unique and nice too!

The next best one would be Black Sesame Snowskin Mooncakes from Regent. The skin is yummy as well and the black sesame is very 香. Not too sweet, not too jelat, just nice.

Went with 乐 to collect his bursary on Sat evening, where they had a mooncake festival celebration as well. A whole row of lanterns with 灯迷 on it lined the arena... Me n 乐 went around guessing all of them, both chinese and english ones, but this one in particular caught my eye...

Easy. Can you guess the answer? Heh heh...

Just as I was typing (@ work =p), Rong Mo Mo passed me 2 pieces of mooncake from Mandarin Oriental!! And its chocolate!!! Slurpz!!! 幸福. There's a personalized note (in all boxes) from Chef E.Teo too...

Tomorrow gonna celebrate with my little cousins!! Reminds me of years ago when us 4 ninja turtles celebrated with all our uncles and aunties.. Competing with each other to see whose lantern would last the longest, esp when we 'fight' with our lanterns, exploring the darkest corners or areas with our lanterns, etc... Somehow we'll just attract a lot of attention from other kids each year, coz my uncles did things like eg. light up a whole tree with lanterns (no trees were harmed during and after the process), or create a whole 'clothes-line' of lanterns, path of candles, etc. Then when we grew older we started playing with sticks, candles and fire instead ha... we look forward to 月饼节 every year... the good ol' days hmmm...

月饼节快乐 everyone!!! =)

Xin & Guan's Glitzy Bliss

After a year of planning and preparations, Xin & Guan finally started a new chapter of their togetherness in a glitzy and loving splendour on 15 Sept 07.

Reported at Xin's place at 730am and the groom and his gang of brothers announced their arrival with the loud horn-ings of their cars (7 altogether) at around 815am for their tekan-ing session. They performed 3 tasks , which were relatively easy - just some banana breakfast, waxing and smooching of each other, and got through the 1st round... with the help of some gan-jiong relatives... For the 2nd round, the groom was supposed to sing... 1st was 小雨伞, followed by David Tao's 爱很简单. It was hilarious as the rest of the brothers didn't know the lyrics so they just caught on the last word of each phrase to harmonise haha...

The rest I shall not elaborate...Skip, skip, skip. Proceeded to and fro Guan's place after dat, then to 佛牙寺 (Fo Ya Shi) ... 1st time for any of us I think, to witness such different, customary and grand blessing ceremony for a wedding couple. The newly-renovated temple is majestic and have an almost regal ambience. We were ushered to a specially cordoned off area in the main hall for the blessing ceremony, which was carried out by 20 monks. Don't mean to be rude, but a few of us were struggling to mask our urge to burst out laughing when the head monk was sprinkling or rather splashing water at us - We were having water trickling down our faces! And I know Xin herself was 忍-ing too haha! But it was a great and meaningful ceremony, topped off with Xin's kua and Guan's suit which had an oriental touch.

Off to Ritz Carlton next. The suite was simply "wahhhhhhhhh......" !!! From the breathtaking view, the famous toilet, the nice bedroom, to the little details like the pair of wedding bears, the nice cake (?) on the table and everything else was marvellous! Had a briefing session with the hotel staff - 8 of them in all! Then all of us scuttered around to prepare for the dinner within 45 mins, using all the mirrors we could find in the room ha...

The gallery for the solemnisation and the ballroom were beautifully and romantically decorated with roses, candles and the expensive chandeliers. Skip, skip, skip. When the couple marched in, Xin was doing well until she saw me - that's when she almost cried! Didn't know I am so tear-inducing haha... quickly grabbed her hand and mouthed "不可以哭!" I almost teared myself too hee... Skip, skip, skip. It was nice to attend such a happy occasion together with the Irritants, especially when our 2 tables combined to form a huge group during the photo-taking session. =)

Specially for My Dearest Xin:
Very very very happy for you and I'm very honoured and glad to have joined you for your preparations here and there... All the most blessed wishes in the world for you and may you and Guan be blissful eternally. **Super Big Hugs, Be Here For You Always and I Love You - too!!** =p
