The Online Costume Party by Mr Anything

Came across this excellent piece of writing from Mr Anything aka my Irritants Comrade:

[Warning: NC 16 - Course and explicit language]

Having a online journal, diary, blog is a funny thing. The sheer act of having it online screams the fact that it wants to be read. Yet isn't a journal suppose to be something private? Back in the stone age where people religiously scribble their daily musing with the good'ol pen and paper, who would have thought of bringing their dairy (aka the big book of evil thoughts, gossips, hypocrisies) out in the open. Its your inner darkest secrets exposed. In the end, your journal is no longer solely yours.

Your no-hose-bar, unrestrained, blunt inner thoughts becomes restricted. Imagine being played out by a friend or whatever. Inside your head, you are in screaming rage shouting "nb, ccb, knn, fucking son of a bitch asshole" but then, you ponder again, "Crap, he reads my blog. Better leave this out of my entry." Or, when you stabbed your work colleague right smack in the back. Your inner self goes,"You stupid piece of shit, that's for taking my pencil without asking! Muhahaha...". But are you going to write that in your online blog? Of course not, stupid! Who in the hell would use his blog adversely against himself?

Ultimately, the costume party of daily life extends its claws to the online journal world. Everyone is just wearing a mask; a mask that covers your true face. A nice angelic smile hiding the evil devilish grin.

Isn't the online journal a funny thing? On one side you want to be seen, on the other side you do not want to be seen naked.

My comments:

What an interesting yet totally apt title... exactly the way I feel about blogging. I deleted a paragraph away after I published an entry too... coz the person I was referring to was pretty obvious. Somehow, sadistically, it does gives a sense of excitement and yet jitters at the same time as you do not know if the the person will eventually read it.

Well... at the end of the day, just treat it as an avenue to share news, updates, thoughts (with lotsa acronyms) or interesting stuff seen & heard with friends ba.... =)
